Europe, with love

So what about that video of the European Commission? Don't know what I'm talking about? Just look here...
No later than Thursday, Joe Hennon, recently appointed spokesperson for the commissioner on communication, told us that the European commission will focus more on Internet. Well... they already did it. The controversy around the video I linked to is a living proof of that. Why? Because all those videos already were on the European commission website, ready to be downloaded by anyone who wanted... but who really took the time to go to that website and look to videos about Europe?
"What we have on EUTube is material we already had. But why would people go to the Audio-visual section of our website instead of going to YouTube?", Mr. Hennon said.
And I have to admit that in the beginning I was a little skeptic about that (how would the boring videos produced by the European Commission could possibly rise the interest of young people on YouTube- or EUTube)? Well... I obviously, i hadn't seen them

I believe the spot on the european cinema lovers is great communication... not only because it has rosen a lot of media attention aroud it, but also because it gets exactly to the point without being scared and that's what a direct, simple and clear communication should be about.
Is very important for the EC to get closer to the citizens, as it is always seen as a very far institution (based somewhere in Brussels). This video, which will be distributed in all european cinemas is the answer. Or, at least, one of possible ones.
It is very important that the videos produced for the internet are made with a different and more immediate style and that the production focuses on targets that actually are able to access to the web, so young people of europe... be aware: EuTube rocks!
I find the linked video really ridiculous and out-of-theme. With all its money, the Commission could have surely found many other advertisers with more interesting, intelligent and effective proposals.
Anyway, if the intention was to let mass media talk about this video, they got the point...
Hope to watch better things, in years to come.
Bye!
well, the content is not the issue here... what i was saying is that the content, as it is, has long been on the website of the EC, but it stirred no debate or controversy because nobody actually saw it. now that it is on youtube, it has already been seen by 2.3 million people, 1 million more each day...
well, as u have justly pointed out, its's EUTube that brought this video to the wider public. Just think about it: everyone's on YouTube or on any video sharing channel--> it's awesome that the Commission's using the "in" methods, the ability to recognize what's hot or not now with European youth is a success in itself :> it's all about to use the right channel & medium (not once and forever of course, they have to be flexible & adjust to the changes)
moreover, i'm sure most of the people will prefer seeing the European movie the next time.. :>
well, i don't think the video is great but...at least it's something that the young people can watch and not fall asleep to. i think its kind of sad they use sex scenes in it, like a "cool" thing, when we are all ready to understand more complex things, but they have to start somewhere.
